What if I'm driving?

If a tornado warning is issued while you're on the road, get to a sturdy building as soon as you safely can.

Do not stop under an overpass.
Do not try to outrun a nearby tornado through congested or uncertain roads.
If a sturdy building is immediately available, go inside and shelter on the lowest floor away from windows.
If you cannot reach shelter, follow current local emergency guidance and protect your head and neck.

Plan ahead on severe-weather days. Knowing where sturdy public buildings are along your route is much easier than deciding during a warning.
