← HomeWhat if I'm driving?
If a tornado warning is issued while you're on the road, get to a sturdy building as soon as you safely can.
- Do not stop under an overpass.
- Do not try to outrun a nearby tornado through congested or uncertain roads.
- If a sturdy building is immediately available, go inside and shelter on the lowest floor away from windows.
- If you cannot reach shelter, follow current local emergency guidance and protect your head and neck.
Plan ahead on severe-weather days. Knowing where sturdy public buildings are along your route is much easier than deciding during a warning.
