Tornado Watch vs. Warning

These two alerts sound similar, but they call for different levels of action.

Tornado Watch

A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. Stay weather-aware, keep your phone charged, and know where you would shelter if a warning is issued.

Tornado Warning

A warning means a tornado has been indicated by radar or reported and the warned area is in immediate danger. Take shelter right away and follow official instructions.

Simple version: WATCH = be ready. WARNING = take action.
